Toronto, ON (May 14, 2026) – Former NHL forward and York Yeti owner Cody Hodgson is bringing professional pickleball to Prince Edward Island this summer as the York Yeti host a Canadian National Pickleball League (CNPL) tournament at Atlantic Pickleball Club in Stratford, PEI from June 6-8. The event will bring elite-level CNPL competition to Atlantic Canada, with the York Yeti hosting the London Smash, Montreal Lions, and Toronto United for a weekend of fast-paced action, high-energy matchups in one of the fastest-growing sports in North America. 

Hodgson, a 10th overall NHL Draft pick who spent six seasons in the league with Vancouver, Buffalo, and Nashville, has channeled his lifelong competitive drive into one of the fastest-growing sports in North America.

“Pickleball is one of those sports where the energy in the room is just electric,” says Hodgson. “Atlantic Canada has incredible sports fans and we want to bring something new and exciting to the Island. The Atlantic Pickleball Club is a world-class facility and we cannot wait to get out there.”

Hodgson will be on the ground in PEI on Thursday ahead of the tournament and is available for media interviews.

With hundreds of fans expected throughout the weekend, the tournament will showcase professional competition, community engagement, and a festival-style atmosphere as PEI becomes one of the latest stops on the CNPL circuit.

About Cody Hodgson

Cody Hodgson is a former NHL forward who was drafted 10th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2008 NHL Draft. Over six NHL seasons with Vancouver, Buffalo, and Nashville, he led the Buffalo Sabres in scoring twice and represented Canada at the 2014 IIHF World Championship in Prague. Prior to his NHL career, Hodgson won Gold with Team Canada at the 2009 World Junior Championship in Ottawa and was named the 2009 Canadian Hockey League Player of the Year.

Since retiring from professional hockey for medical reasons, Hodgson has become a real estate investor while remaining active in the game as a volunteer U16 minor hockey coach in Toronto. Last summer, he worked on the ice with current NHL players as part of Gary Roberts’ elite training program. He also serves on the Board of Advisors for the RYR1 Foundation.
